May 21 @ 09:30 - 11:30

Free

The first flowers should be in bloom in the Meadow – Come and join your expert guides on a 2 hour guided walk around the nature reserve.

🌿🌼 Welcome to the Marton Mere Discovery Walk for May!

Here’s what to look out for in our wildflower meadow and around the nature reserve:

  1. Wildflower Wonderland: Explore the vibrant colours and varieties in our wildflower meadow. Look for ox-eye daisies, red clovers, and yellow rattle. 🌸🌼
  2. Orchid Observations: Keep an eye out for the rare and beautiful bee orchids and early purple orchids that may be in bloom.
  3. Busy Bees: Watch bees and other pollinators hard at work among the flowers. Their activity is crucial for the ecosystem. 🐝🌻
  4. Butterfly Spotting: Spot butterflies like the Comma, Red Admiral, and Peacock butterflies fluttering around the reserve. 🦋
  5. Birdwatching Bonanza: Listen and look for breeding birds such as the grasshopper warbler, reed warbler, sedge warbler, and perhaps the chirpy calls of the chiffchaff. 🐦🎶
  6. Dragonfly Dynamics: Near water bodies, you might see dragonflies and damselflies zipping around, such as the emperor dragonfly and the blue-tailed damselfly. 🐉💦#
  7. Fungi Finds: Keep an eye on the ground for late-spring fungi, which can be surprisingly diverse, even in dryer conditions. 🍄
  8. Mammal Moments: Early mornings or late evenings might reward you with sightings of rabbits, fox and stoats/weasels. 🐰🦌
  9. Reptile Reveals: Sunny days may bring out reptiles basking in the sun, like the common lizard or slow worms. 🦎
  10. Scenic Skyline: Enjoy the panoramic views and the lush greenery that makes late spring at Marton Mere so special. 🌄

Join us to explore the natural beauty and biodiversity of Marton Mere Local Nature Reserve this May! 🌼🌿 #SpringDiscoveryEvent

Make sure to bring binoculars if you have them, a notebook and a camera to document your observations. However, the walk will be fully guided and the guides will have access to all of this equipment and lots of information.
