(Bittern, Marton Mere by Mick McGough, 8th Feb 2013)

This will be an outdoor meeting at Marton Mere Local Nature Reserve.

Our main target will be to try to see a Bittern at dusk. Two or more Bitterns regularly winter at Marton Mere and have a habit of flying across the Mere at dusk.

Sometimes, they even sit up high in the reeds, allowing scope views.

Meet at the Marton Mere Visitor Centre in the caravan park at 1445 hours, we will then walk to the south west corner (for anyone arriving late).
Drive into the caravan park from Mythop Road, park at the main caravan park buildings, walk to the right of the main building towards the mere to reach the straw covered Visitor Centre on your right, just past a shop.
