Alaska: From the Pacific to the Arctic. The Final Frontier

23 May 2023 @ 19:45 - 21:45

Rob Grimmond

I’m Secretary of The Somerset Ornithologiical Society and Chairman of The Somerset Moth Group. So I’m really into most things that fly! I’ve travelled the world for birds and wildlife, love remote places and have done many talks about my travels.
The talk will cover St. Paul Island in the Bering Sea, Nome, Denali National Park, the Seward Pensinsula (and boat trip) on the coast and Barrow (Utqiagvik) in the high Arctic. St. Paul is a great place because the north Pacific is the hotbed of auk evolution. There are several Eurasian species that in North America breed only in Alaska. There’s also plenty of great mammals to see. And, of course, pretty amazing scenery!
