23 April 2025 @ 19:00 - 21:00
FreeFylde Bird Club are actively funding the construction and installation of Swift (and other species) nest boxes for Club members, for schools and for other local community groups.
To Support this work, Fylde Bird Club have arranged for a talk to be delivered by Louise Bentley, the founder of one of the most active and successful Swift conservation groups, Bolton and Bury Swifts – View their Facebook page here
Bolton and Bury Swifts is a dedicated conservation group focused on reversing the decline of urban birds, particularly swifts and house martins, in the Bolton, Bury, and Greater Manchester areas.
Recognising that these migratory birds rely heavily on buildings for nesting, the group actively works to protect existing colonies and establish new nesting sites.
Their initiatives include constructing and installing swift boxes, advocating for the integration of swift bricks in new housing developments, and raising public awareness through educational talks and community engagement.
By collaborating with local authorities, housing associations, and residents, Bolton and Bury Swifts strive to ensure that these remarkable birds continue to grace our summer skies.
This talk will go some way to explaining the plight of Swifts and Martins, but will also highlight the positive steps that individuals and groups can make to help slow the decline of these amazing and enigmatic birds.
